Some great news forwarded below; congratulations to Sarah and thanks to everyone involved in making this happen!

Hopefully, this will lead to more GLAM outreach opportunities around the Smithsonian in the future; we've had great luck with the Archives so far, and we should aim to leverage that into more partnerships with the other Smithsonian museums and centers.

Cheers,
Kirill

HI folks,

Just an FYI that my residency is not public (aka not just on Wiki :P ). The link for the press release, please note it is a PDF file.

Thanks to all who have helped get this project off the ground. I have a lot more work to do, so the Wiki page has some work to be done on it, but, we just uploaded our barnstar today, also, which was designed by and voted on by Smithsonian Institution staff.

Hope ya'll will sign up to participate and thanks for the support!

APOLOGIES FOR CROSS-POSTING

Hello all-

We wanted to extend a big welcome to Sarah Stierch, the Archives’ new Wikipedian in Residence.

You can read more about Sarah’s residency in detail in the following press release on our press page:

Smithsonian Institution Archives Hosts Wikipedian in Residence and Outreach Events with Wikipedia Volunteers

As you can see from the press release, Sarah will be facilitating a Smithsonian Women in Science Edit-a-Thon that will be hosted by the Archives, this Friday, March 30th from 1-5 pm. During this time Wikipedians from the area will gather to work with the Archives team to improve our content on Wikipedia. We encourage you to drop by to say hi to the dedicated Wikipedians who will be editing at this event. Their efforts will go far to make our collections more accessible to millions of people on Wikipedia. You can read more about the event or sign up to participate in the editing here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/DC_30

I also encourage you to watch the following video from an edit-a-thon that Sarah helped organize at the Archives of American Art during her residency there—it gives a great idea for what these events are like:

An interview about Sarah’s work to bring more women editors and more women-related content to Wikipedia is available here:

Stay tuned for more updates from Sarah on the Archives’ blog about her work at SIA.

Best,

Catherine
