Sounds good to me.

I did a quick check through funded rapid grants over the last 2 years. Although there's no precedent for asking for advertising money in rapid grants (they're typically requesting catering and wifi money for editathons), our grant is actually much more similar to a small "Project grant". Those include quite varied requests (e.g. salary, travel, equipment for a WiR).

We could put advertising costs as an "optional" expense line. The WMF could then decide whether it was willing to fund that line without it jeopardising the rest of the budget.

Thanks Gwinyai for your support. Targetted ads were what I was talking about. Apart from facebook ads, google ads also carry similar prospects. I was just wondering if we could set up the right strategy and reach out to people searching for open access journals without any apc or may be for publication in leading journals like nejm. I am just thinking out loud and my thoughts would require refinement.

Hi All,

I do not necessarily see it as 'giving money' to Facebook. They're offering us a service in exchange for money. Social media, I think, is where we can get word out most effectively about WikiJournal of Medicine and reach potential collaborators, authors, etc. I do not see a better way Diptanshu.

Kindest regards,

Agreed. But we need to reach out to the right people. Any better suggestions about how to do this?

I don't know if we should give money to Facebook... feels awkward from a WP perspective

I would insist on addition of another 400 USD (50 USD x 8) for strategic promotions including select facebook posts and also possibly elsewhere. It is very important to reach out to the academic community first.

I agree we currently don't need a bank account. On the other hand, I added: [1]

$400: Registering WikiJournal as a trademark in the United States (regular price), in order to legally protect the WikiJournal name. Once registered, it only needs renewal once every 10 years. [2]

They did have reduced price too, but which would cost at least $400 anyway if it needs correction or supplemental information, which I think will most likely happen.

I think we may submit the application by the weekend. If we conceive additional ideas afterwards, it's always possible to make another application for those.

Best regards,

Mikael

Hi all WikiJournal participants,

The year 2018 is no longer that far away and it's time to think about next year's funding. I've now started a draft of a rapid grant to fund us through next year: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/WikiJournal_2018

Now that WikiJournal as a whole is a non-profit organization we could add funding for creating a bank account for the project for about $120, but as the expenses are still relatively overseeable I can act as treasurer with my private account, and keep the receipts until it's time to report.

Please add your ideas, other comments and/or simply support for the application.

Best regards,

Mikael
