Jimmy, Robert-
RK, you're a longtime contributor, highly valued,
but I'd like to ask
you to tone it down a notch. Referring to the contributions of others
as "Neo-Nazi-like revisionism" is not kind, and it causes people to
get very upset, and with good reason I think.
Unfortunately, RK is frequently very confrontational or even insulting
without provocation, and he uses accusations of anti-Semitism and
vandalism a lot. We all give him a little leeway because he has made many
excellent contributions. But he has often turned disagreements that could
have been addressed rationally into highly emotionalized flamefests.
I'm not sure what the best way to deal with this is. Martin sometimes
removes personal attacks from the comment pages, which on the one hand is
a beautiful use of wiki's strength, on the other hand can be perceived as
intrusive. Should we officially condone this kind of editing? If we made
it policy, maybe more people would do it and discussions would
automatically take on a reasonable tone. On the other hand, people could
perceive Wikipedia as an excessively PC place, and the editing policy
might be abused for the purpose of "sanitizing" comments. We would have to
be very careful to limit it to personal attacks, and to avoid any
extension to controversial statements. I'd like to hear opinions on this
specifically.
Of course, the obvious thing to do is to ask Robert to review and change
his behavior. The cynic in me says "Yeah, right".
Regards,
Erik
