On this morning's phone-in on BBC Radio Five Live, about the furore
about Prince Harry wearing a Nazi uniform to a fancy dress party, the
host, Victoria Derbyshire, read a history of the swastika's use in
eastern religions -- I thought "that sounds familiar", and sure enough
it turns out to be the last paragraph of the introduction of our
[[Swastika]] article, with a couple of sub-clauses omitted.
You can hear it on "Listen again" at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/fivelive_aod.shtml?morning# until
tomorrow's show goes up -- click the +15 minutes button three times as
soon as the programme begins, and you'll be right in the middle of the
quote.

There will be Wikipedia flyers and WP-knowledgable librarians
wandering about the ALA conference in Boston this weekend. (tomorrow
through tuesday) We don't have our own booth, but a number of
attending librarians with floor passes are giving us a hand.
If you are visiting the conference, be sure to say hello to them.
And if you have WP-related content that you think the people on the
display floor would be interested in, or things we should target at
librarians in particular (like a clear description of what a
library-meetup / collaborative research day might be like), let me
know. Right now, the plan is : "Ask me about Wikipedia!" buttons and
a flyer explaining what WP is about.

When I first updated the Primate pages to use a 2001 taxonomy, I
accidentally typo'd genus ''Pseudopotto'' as ''Psudopotto''. Recently
I fixed the error. Googling, I can find all the mirrors that have
picked up the error but which haven't yet gotten a more recent copy,
as well as 'pedias that have copied and/or translated it, maintaining
the error. Although it doesn't show on Google, Wikispecies even copied
my mistake. I feel so honored. *grins*

{{Nonfreedelete}} on en Wikipedia is a template that specifies a with-permission etc. non-free image may be deleted within 30 days if a free license isn't granted. I noticed it because bot PocciScript has slapped it on a number of images. The template has two edits, one of which was merely to correct a link, and there is no discussion page. What's with it? Obviously we are not purging all fair use and with-permission photos, so what is this for?

Hi everyone
This morning I received in my mail box a message purporting to come
from wikien-l-bounces(a)Wikipedia.org
It relates to a message I am supposed to have sent the list headed
*Darling*, and which has been bounced since it is too big. It ends by
inviting me to click a link to cancel the posting if I wish.
Needless to say the person whom I am likely to address as darling is
not on this list.
I am up to date on my anti-virus, firewall and am clean of adware, so
assume this is yet another spammer's devious trick!

Hi everyone,
In view of the recent death of the author, it is clearly still in
copyright and this is owned by his heirs, if there are any. Is this a
personal document or an 'official' one? If the latter then the
copyright would be with the successors of the Germany Navy then,
presumably the present German Ministry of Defense.

I've finished putting in a references section. I'd appreciate it if we
could keep this going! Heck, after things calm down it might be FAC worthy.

The subject is the edit summary from the edit that removed NSK's link. Independent of the particulars of NSK's site, this summary is not a valid excuse, wikipedia articles can grow to a level of completeness that most external sites cannot match, yet a lot of our information comes from external sites, and it can be important to cite those sites even though their information has been included in the article and a subsequent editor unfamiliar with the history may now consider them redundant.. -- Silverback

Greetings all,
I would appreciate some assistence in this matter.
While I appreciate that the use of sock puppets is no more than frowned upon at Wikipedia the using of sock puppets to breach the 3RR is certainly not allowed.
Therefore it is requested that someone inform me how to establish how to do it myself (or if it is restricted) then to establish whether the following users are one and the same or just a clever tag-team arrangement.

Do you Yahoo!?
Yahoo! Mail - 250MB free storage. Do more. Manage less.
In light of the size of Wikipedia, it's increasingly difficult for
people to keep track of significant happenings in the community. I've
made a new effort to collect this information by actually writing about
it. In other words, I've started a newspaper.
It's called The Wikipedia Signpost, and I'm planning to publish it on a
weekly basis. Read it at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost
Many of you probably try to keep track of some of these things, so some
of it will be familiar. Still, I would guess that everybody could find
some stuff in there that they don't know. And there was even more that I
just didn't have time to write up.
People who might want to be reporters are welcome - please contact me if
you're interested. This is needed because we've long passed the point
where anyone can be everywhere at once.
