Several of us have been working on improving the Main Page and are pretty
satisfied with the results. See
http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page/Temp
And also a before and after screenshot:

Comments about added improvements and edits are welcome.
It would be great if we could work on this some more and then go live with the
new version on January 15th aka Wikipedia Day. It would also be great if we
all concentrated on trying to make 100,000 articles by the 15th.
Speaking of which, a press release is also in order for Wikipedia Day.....

Please review [[New Imperialism]] and its edit history. 172 has made this dense, what-looks-to-be-copyrighted article with his/her own idiosyncractic markup and tons of oblique references to other items without explaining those other references. I attempted to do some markup correction, not at all changing the content except for spelling and grammar fixes and a couple of NPOVing attempts, very minor (I took out a characterization of Theodore Roosevelt as racist, for example). This took about half an hour of work. 172 cavalierly reverted the entire thing without comment.
I asked several questins in Talk, and 172's only answer was, "Look it up in a high school history text."

172 says that he/she will revert all of my changes because " I suspect that your some over-zealous right-winger whos on my case for some inane suspicions"

Hi there...Sheldon Rampton here. I'm a relative newbie to Wikipedia,
but I'd like permission to be a sysop anyway.
I am making this request because I am in the process of creating my
own separate project, a "Disinfopedia" that will be modeled after
Wikipedia. In addition to the Wikipedia software, I would also like
to use or adapt a number of protected pages (e.g., guidelines on how
to create an article). I am not planning to make any changes to those
pages as they exist in Wikipedia, but in order to cut-and-paste the
information into my own project, I will need sysop status.
If you need any further information about my bona fides, I am the
editor and webmaster for PR Watch (www.prwatch.org).
Thanks!
