Wikidata Mailing List,
Hello. I would like to describe some unfolding developments pertaining to real-time fact-checking and Wikidata.
Imagine being able to check, in real-time, if a document has any informational, warning, or error messages with respect to its factuality or any steps of its reasoning. Tools for authoring and reviewing documents, in these regards, would be useful across sectors, across industry, academia, military, and government, with specific applicability to journalism, encyclopedias, digital textbooks, and science.
New schemas, formats, and protocols are presently being considered, developed, and specified pertaining to real-time fact-checking and other document services scenarios. Document services are a generalization over services for documents such as: spelling checking, grammar checking, proofreading, fact checking, and mathematical proof and argumentation checking. Document services are relevant to both document authoring and document reviewing scenarios.
The following example showcases the idea that Wikidata could be of use for performing real-time fact-checking on an HTML document:
<html>
<head>
<base href="https://www.example.org/document.xhtml" />
<meta name="fact-checking-selector" content="[role~='fact']" />
<link rel="fact-checking-service-provider" href="https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:FactCheck" />
</head>
<body>
<span role="fact">HTML and MathML content</span>
<div role="fact">HTML and MathML content</div>
</body>
</html>
As indicated above, document authors could utilize document metadata to recommend the use of a specific fact-checking service, e.g. a Wikidata-based fact-checking service. End-users could also configure their Web browsers to make use of specific fact-checking services. Multiple services could be used simultaneously.
A W3C Document Services Community Group is in a proposal stage to discuss document services and to explore standardization topics. If discussing and working on these or related ideas is of interest to you, please do feel free to support the creation of the group and to join the group (https://www.w3.org/community/groups/proposed/#services).
I hope that real-time fact-checking is an interesting Wikidata scenario. Please do feel free to read more about these ideas here:
https://www.w3.org/community/argumentation/wiki/Document_Serviceshttps://github.com/WICG/proposals/issues/19
I look forward to discussing these ideas with you. Feedback, comments, ideas, and suggestions are welcomed. Thank you.
Best regards,
Adam Sobieski
Hello all,
The Wikidata Analytics dashboards are now gathered on a new portal:
https://wikidata-analytics.wmcloud.org/ . You can for example find the
dashboard about Wikidata usage in the WIkimedia projects on
https://wikidata-analytics.wmcloud.org/app/WD_percentUsageDashboard.
The new dashboards include more interactive visualizations, a new analytics
systems scale allowing a better share of resources and therefore an easier
access to the boards, and various improvements to the code that will make
it easier to add new dashboards.
The boards now have new URLs, and the old ones (for example
https://wmdeanalytics.wmflabs.org/WDCM_UsageDashboard/ ) will be maintained
until February 28th. We apologize for this inconvenience.
Feel free to update your bookmarks and links. Here
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T272192> you can find the list of all
boards with the old and new URLs. We will take care of updating them on the
documentation pages that we maintain.
Thanks for your understanding, feel free to reach out to me if you have any
questions or issues. You can also add a comment under this Phabricator task
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T272192>.
Cheers,

Call for Papers - ACM UMAP 2021
29th ACM International Conference on User Modeling, Adaptation and Personalization
Theme: "Re-Evaluating Evaluation in Personalization Research"
Hybrid: Utrecht (The Netherlands) and Online
June 21-25th (tentative), 2021
Website: https://www.um.org/umap2021/
============================
Abstracts due: January 17, 2021 (mandatory)
Full paper due: January 24, 2021
============================
BACKGROUND AND SCOPE:
============================
ACM UMAP – User Modeling, Adaptation and Personalization – is the premier international conference for researchers and practitioners working on systems that adapt to individual users or to groups of users, and that collect, represent, and model user information. ACM UMAP is sponsored by ACM SIGCHI and SIGWEB, and organized with User Modeling Inc. as the core Steering Committee, extended with past years’ chairs. The proceedings are published by ACM and will be part of the ACM Digital Library.
ACM UMAP covers a wide variety of research areas where personalization and adaptation may be applied. This includes a number of domains in which researchers are engendering significant innovations based on advances in user modeling and adaptation, recommender systems, adaptive educational systems, intelligent user interfaces, e-commerce, advertising, digital humanities, social networks, personalized health, entertainment, and many more.
We welcome submissions related to user modeling, personalization and adaptation; the conference web site provides a detailed list. Below we present a short (but not proscriptive) list of topics of importance to the conference. As the theme for UMAP 2021 is “Re-Evaluating Evaluation” we encourage submissions in all areas that offer a critical analysis of evaluations of personalized systems. We particularly want to acknowledge that some of the research might be influenced by Covid-19 related constraints (e.g., difficulty of running lab studies), and welcome submissions which introduce novel methodologies arising from a need to conduct research in new ways.
CONFERENCE TOPICS:
============================
We welcome submissions related to user modeling, personalization and adaptation in any area. The topics listed below are not intended to limit possible contributions.
Final decisions will be made on the basis of suitability for, and fit to, the overall conference (not for specific tracks). Additionally, there is no quota for the maximal number of accepted papers per track. Topics include (but are not limited to):
• Personalized Recommender Systems
• Track chairs: Alejandro Bellogin, Sole Pera, Ludovico Boratto
• Adaptive Hypermedia and the Semantic Web
• Track chairs: Maria Bielikova, Panagiotis Germanakos, Ben Steichen
• Intelligent User Interfaces
• Track chairs: Katrien Verbert, Denis Parra
• Personalized Social Web
• Track chairs: Julita Vassileva, Jie Zhang
• Technology-Enhanced Adaptive Learning
• Track chairs: Ella Haig, Manolis Mavrikis
• Fairness, Transparency, Accountability, and Privacy
• Track chairs: Christine Bauer, Michael Ekstrand
• Personalization for Persuasive and Behavior Change Systems
• Track chairs: Jaap Ham, Rita Orji
SUBMISSION AND REVIEW PROCESS
============================
Papers will be submitted through EasyChair:
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=acmumap2021
Long (14 pages + references) and Short (7 pages + references) papers in the new ACM single-column style. Appendices count toward the page limit, we recommend that supplementary material is linked to an external source using an anonymised URL. Original research papers addressing the theory and/or practice of UMAP, and papers showcasing innovative use of UMAP and exploring the benefits and challenges of applying UMAP technology in real-life applications and contexts are welcome.
* Long papers should present original reports of substantive new research techniques, findings, and applications of UMAP. They should place the work within the field and clearly indicate its innovative aspects. Research procedures and technical methods should be presented in sufficient detail to ensure scrutiny and reproducibility. Results should be clearly communicated and implications of the contributions/findings for UMAP and beyond should be explicitly discussed.
* Short papers should present original and highly promising research or applications. Merit will be assessed in terms of originality and importance rather than maturity, extensive technical validation, and user studies. Separation of long and short papers will be strictly enforced so papers will not compete across categories, but only within each category.
Papers must be formatted according to the new workflow for ACM SIG publications. The templates and instructions are available here: Standard (SIGCONF) proceedings template: https://www.acm.org/publications/taps/word-template-workflow.<https://www.acm.org/publications/taps/word-template-workflow>
Authors should submit their papers as single-column. The templates are available here (we strongly recommend the usage of LaTeX for the camera-ready papers to minimize the extent of reformatting):
* LaTeX (use \documentclass[manuscript,review,anonymous]{acmart} in the sample-authordraft.tex file for single-column):
https://www.acm.org/binaries/content/assets/publications/consolidated-tex-t…
* Overleaf (use\documentclass[manuscript,review,anonymous]{acmart} for single-column):
https://www.overleaf.com/latex/templates/acm-conference-proceedings-master-…
* MS Word:
https://www.acm.org/binaries/content/assets/publications/taps/acm_submissio…
NB: Accepted papers will require a further revision in order to meet the requirements and page limits of the camera-ready format required by ACM. Instructions for the preparation of the camera-ready versions of the papers will be provided after acceptance.
UMAP uses a double blind review process. Authors must omit their names and affiliations from submissions, and avoid obvious identifying statements. For instance, citations to the authors' own prior work should be made in the third-person.
All accepted papers will be published by ACM and will be available via the ACM Digital Library. To be included in the Proceedings, at least one author of each accepted paper must register for the conference and present the paper there. Student registration fee is allowed for students who present a student paper.

Hey everyone!
I have been working around labels and languages in Wikidata for a while and
wanted to create or maintain a list of tools/help pages/guidelines and
other relevant content around the multilingual data in Wikidata. E.g.,
tools for label translation.
I have created a page in my userspace (that I am happy to migrate into any
existing page) and would be very happy about any pointers to existing
projects/tools/etc.
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Frimelle/Languages_and_labels
Please let me know if you can point me to any tools around languages and
labels in Wikidata!
Thanks,
Lucie (User:Frimelle)

Hello all,
Following up on another thread, I wanted to mention that we're welcoming
new moderators who would be willing to dedicate a bit of time in moderating
this mailing-list.
This includes tasks like: review the moderated messages, take action on new
filters to implement, help fight spam attacks, discuss with people when a
problem occurs, and generally make sure that the atmosphere on the
mailing-list stays healthy and friendly.
Please note that this is a volunteer role that requires a prior knowledge
of Wikidata and its community, as well as a good experience with Mailman,
the tool used for the Wikimedia mailing-lists, that doesn't have the nicest
admin interface. The moderator should be aware of the Code of Conduct for
technical spaces <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Code_of_Conduct> and
willing to apply it.
If you're interested, feel free to send an email to
wikidata-owner(a)lists.wikimedia.org, dropping a few sentences about your
motivation, your involvement in the Wikidata community and your experience
with moderating mailing-lists.
Cheers,

Hello all,
Since the middle of December, we have a new dashboard for statistics about
lexicographical data on Wikidata: *Wikidata Datamodel Lexemes
<https://grafana.wikimedia.org/d/UHV96YJGk/wikidata-datamodel-lexemes>*.
Similar to other dashboards (e.g. Wikidata Datamodel Statements
<https://grafana.wikimedia.org/d/000000175/wikidata-datamodel-statements>),
it collects various statistics (in this case, using a collection of SPARQL
queries). The data is similar to some of the results gathered at
Wikidata:Lexicographical
data/Statistics
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Lexicographical_data/Statistics>,
and shows the evolution of data over time.
This dashboard highlights the efforts of the editors to improve the content
by adding new Lexemes, Senses and Forms (for example the recent import of
Lexemes in Estonian
<https://grafana.wikimedia.org/d/UHV96YJGk/wikidata-datamodel-lexemes?from=1…>),
but also areas where improvements could be made (83% of Lexemes without
Senses).
We hope you will find this useful. If you have any feedback or notice an
issue, feel free to contact us on this page
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Contact_the_development_team>.
Thanks,
