Hi all,
I streamlined your ideas about the Wikidata GSoC projects with our
description:
http://wiki.dbpedia.org/gsoc2013/ideas/WikidataMappings
Not sure, whether there can be joint or duplicate applications (e.g. one
student applying at both organizations with the same proposal ) ... I
guess we can figure this out, when it happens.
All the best,
Sebastian

Hi all,
1. the deadline for GSoC applications is approaching. Students have to
apply before: 3rd of May
Details here: http://wiki.dbpedia.org/gsoc2013/apply and here
http://wiki.dbpedia.org/gsoc2013/ideas
2. we updated the description for the Wikidata + DBpedia idea:
http://wiki.dbpedia.org/gsoc2013/ideas/WikidataMappings?v=1cy8
Feedback welcome :)
3. Also I added two guidelines for students and mentors:
http://wiki.dbpedia.org/gsoc2013/ideas?v=1cgg#h254-3
They are straightforward, actually.
All the best,
Sebastian

This may be a question that has been asked before, but why not make Google
site search more prominent and so the wikidata search can go into beta mode?

Heya folks :)
We have just deployed qualifiers
(http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikidata/Notes/Data_model_primer#Qualifiers)
and bug fixes on wikidata.org. Qualifiers! Bug fixes are especially
for Internet Explorer 8. Please let me know how it is working for you
now if you're using IE8 and if there are still any major problems when
using Wikidata with it.
In addition the script we ran on the database to make search
case-insensitive has finished running. This should be another huge
step towards a nice search here. (This change also affects the
autocomplete for items and properties.)
As usual please let me know what you think and tell me if there are any issues.
Cheers
Lydia

Hi,
I am Chinmay Naik, an undergrad in CS at Bangalore,India. I hope to
contribute to CrowsourcingBiology through GSOC 2013. The project i am
interested is "convert bot to write to wikidata". Currently the bot does
this database ---> wikipedia. The proposal is this database ---->
wikidata -----> wikipedia.
I have the basic idea of how to capture gene info onto wikidata. I was
wondering about the inclusion syntax of wikidata. I had a look at the
current inclusion of wikidata v0.3 meta. Some things are unclear to me. How
best it is to map wikidata items on to wiki articles.??
Currently, the bot uses templates. The template structure is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:GNF_Protein_box. The bot fills a
various gene templates http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:PBB/100. These
gene templates are included on gene wikipedia articles.
I tried to work out on the italian wikipedia. When i try to include a
template(mapped to wikidata item) onto an wiki article, the wikidata
properties were not displayed.
So is it not possible to include wikidata items in template namespace??
So transclusion where data is retreived from wikidata item not supported??
Kindly pardon me if this is not the right mailing list to post to about
this.
Thanks in advance,
Chinmay

A good question from huwiki:
When I click on an earlier version of the page in the history, will the
"then-value" of the property be shown or the current value?
If I read the 2013 version of [[United States of America]] in 2018, will
Obama be the president?
