I invite you to check out my weekly column called “Eatiquette” in Real Eats, an iPad/iPhone/Internet magazine that’s barely three months old. It’s from a company called Nomad Editions. Links are below, which will take you either to the magazine itself or to a page that will allow you to get a free trial subscription. Paid subscriptions start at $6 for three months, $24 per year, and will put soy-free fake bacon in my refrigerator if I ever decide to become a vegetarian again. My column this week is an answer to a question from someone who wants to but is afraid to volunteer in a soup kitchen. If you choose to check it out, you’ll find a menu at the bottom that will take you to the archive of all the issues so far, and all my columns—answering questions about cell phones at dinner, surprise vegetarian guests and surprised hosts, screaming children in restaurants, takeout food at dinner parties, tipping in bars, talking politics at the dinner table, drinks that will make nondrinkers not feel exposed if they don’t want to, guests helping out in the kitchen, spoon problems, etc. I have been having a LOT of fun with this, and I think it shows. I hope you will have some fun with them too, if you have time.

Spring doesn't officially start 'til Monday, but we're jumping the gun here at Real Eats with our Spring Break Issue, which features dispatches from a Guatemalan macadamia farm, the Micronesian island of Yap, Brooklyn and beyond.

Closer to home, we're marveling at photographer Alex Farnum's dreamy images of henhouses and just-laid eggs, which accompany recipes from chef Janice Cole. From baked eggs with basil-mint pesto to raspberry-swirl angel food cake, we're reminded of just how far a chicken and egg can get us.
