Dear MediaWiki users/members,
I am writing to provide an update on the improvements to the MediaWiki
maintenance script documentation on Mediawiki.org, as well as to ask you to
fill out a survey that will help us to understand these improvements better.
Project Pralekhan [0] is a documentation project under which MediaWiki's
maintenance script documentation [1] is being improved. Under this project,
I have documented 134 scripts so far [2]. Apart from this, the main landing
page for maintenance scripts [1] has been improved with a sidebar for
easier navigation.
If you are a developer or admin involved in running and maintaining a
MediaWiki site, we kindly ask you to respond to this survey by 3 March 2022
(UTC):
https://forms.gle/CC9qLuNi3mN3GHkv7
Your response is highly appreciated. Your input plays a key role in the
analysis and recommendations to ensure more improvements to MediaWiki
maintenance scripts.
Thank you and regards,
Jay Prakash

Namaste everyone,
I am happy to release pywikisource 0.0.4 version. This version has the
following commits:
* Allow to add User-Agent in HTTP requests
* Refactor to introduce __getPageQueryParam method
* Refactor to introduce analyzeRevisions method
* Add async bookStatus method for parallel execution
There are three other minor commits as well. The major part of this version
is parallel execution. In the past versions, we make one request per
second. This was generating Wikisource stats very slowly. Now I have added
parallel execution which provides an option to increase the limit by 100
requests per second. Although for ethical reasons, I set the default limit
to 25 requests per second. But users can easily change the limit.
For usage and contribution,

Dear Indian Wikimedians,
This year, as part of Outreach, Indic MediaWiki Developers User Group[1]
has mentored a project in the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) program.[2] The
project's goal was to create a guided tour on the topic "Writing userscript
and gadget".[3] The project primarily focuses on newbie developers and
existing Wikimedia community members who have little bit knowledge about
JavaScript. It is a step-by-step guided tour to illustrate writing wiki
userscripts and gadgets. It covers basic to advanced topics.
I am very happy to introduce Devyansh Chawla to this community.[4] He was
the Wikimedia Intern for this project in GSoC and successfully completed
this project. The guided tour is currently located on the test wiki. Please
find it at https://test.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Userscript_Tour. If you have
any suggestions. Please leave it on its talk page.

Jay Prakash

Hello all,
As the 2021 WMF Board elections have been announced, I have proposed to
reconsider the eligibility criteria for “developers” and technical
contributors, as the previous criteria do not make sense any longer and
exclude several groups of contributors.
A discussion has been started at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T281977
and

.
Please share your thoughts and feedback.

and optionally basic CSS.
Details of the workshop are as follows:
- Date: 30 April (Friday)

Subject: [Wikimediaindia-l] SWT South Asia 2021
To: Wikimedia India Community list <wikimediaindia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hello everyone,
Hope you are all doing well, and keeping safe.
I am happy to share with you all an update about the Small wiki toolkits
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Small_wiki_toolkits> initiative in India,
and the larger South Asian region. As part of the Small wiki toolkits
initiative, in the second half of 2020, Indic-TechCom, in collaboration
with WMF's Developer Advocacy team, designed and conducted a technical
workshop series: "Small wiki toolkits - Indic workshop series 2020.” A
report of the same can be seen at https://w.wiki/Yqf.
There has been positive response from community members, as the workshops
have been helpful in understanding basic to intermediate level technical
processes on wikis. Two more workshops have been conducted towards the end
of last year. So, we are now planning to continue to run these workshops
(one per month on average) and expand them to the Wikimedia communities in
the South Asian region. The objective is to impart basic to intermediate
level technical skills for volunteers working on Wikimedia projects of
languages in the South Asian region. More information can be found at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/SWT_South_Asia/Overview, and we have also
applied for rapid grant to support this initiative through 2021, the
proposal for the same can be seen at https://w.wiki/tWE.
The first session will be a brainstorming session on technical challenges
faced by contributions on their wikis, from 6 pm to 7:30 pm (IST) on 24
January 2021. It will be facilitated by Birgit Müller (Director of
Technical Engagement at WMF). If you are interested, please register at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/SWT_South_Asia/Registration. This
discussion will be crucial to decide topics for future workshops. Community
members are also welcome to suggest topics for future workshops anytime at
https://w.wiki/t8Q.
These workshops are being organized with the help of a handful of
volunteers from India, Nepal and Bangladesh, and if anyone is interested to
help in organizing, please let us know.
Regards,
Krishna Chaitanya
